Incoming freshman and chemical engineering major Kyle Koliba was awarded the 2009 College of Education and Human Development Peggy J. Ritchey Endowed Scholarship.
The annual scholarship is open to Texas A&M University students who are children or grandchildren of college support staff or retired support staff. Koliba is the grandson of Kathy May, certification officer in the Dean's office.
The scholarship rewards students who have demonstrated the qualities of caring for others, persistence and school/community leadership.
The scholarship is awarded in honor of Peggy Ritchey, who worked for Texas A&M for 34 years and held a variety of support staff positions during her tenure. She tirelessly worked to increase the professionalism of support staff and to provide a voice for support staff personnel.
Ritchey was a charter member of the Texas A&M University Association for Professional Support Staff. She also helped establish the Staff Advisory Council and the Outstanding Staff Award in the College of Education and Human Development.
