As the success and popularity of our Sport Management program grows, HLKN and College administration have decided to make some big changes to increase program visibility at Texas A&M and across the nation.
In August 2006, the Division of Sport Management was created in an effort to help sport management faculty develop better relationships with their students. The new division houses 550 bachelor's students, 38 master's students and 12 doctoral students.
Four months later, in December 2006, the Texas A&M Board of Regents approved the creation of The Center for Sport Management Research and Education (http://csmre.tamu.edu) The Center was designed to be a collaborative venture between the Division of Sport Management and the Department of Athletics at Texas A&M, and with a generous donation from former A&M student John Trott, the Center hosted the first of seven speakers during the Trott Lecture Series held in April.
The Center recently received a grant from the Department of State to develop a Fusion Arts Exchange (FAX) program in Sport Management. The funding, which amounts to $280,000 for the first summer of the program (full funding for three summers), will be used to fund an exchange study for 15 international students (from Indonesia, Nigeria, Russia, Turkey, and Venezuela) and five American students. The co-principal investigators are Drs. Michael Sagas and Gregg Bennett. The program will begin July 10, 2007, and end August 17, 2007.
In other news, a Sport Management Minor will be offered starting in the fall 2007 and seven bachelor's courses in Sport Management will be offered online.
