| Research Roadmap | ||
This fall, there are two action items that require participation of faculty as part of this research roadmap activity: The first action item is the development of our college’s 10-year research plan. I have asked the Associate Dean of Research, Linda Skrla, and the college’s Council of Principal Investigators (CPI) to provide a draft research plan that will be submitted to the college’s leadership team and the Dean’s Council for review. This plan is to be completed and submitted to the Provost’s Office by December 1. Toby Egan, chair of the CPI group, is directing this activity. The second action item pertains to the development of White Papers. The research roadmap committee will be distributing information to the university community on the format of these papers. The criteria for evaluation of these papers include potential for societal and scholarly impact, multidisciplinary nature of the topic, existence of significant expertise on campus, alignment with Vision 2020 and College Research Plans, and potential for extramural funding support. These papers are faculty-generated and are not required to be reviewed or approved by administrators. These papers will be due in mid-January and reviewed during the spring semester. There will be only a limited subset of white papers that will be selected as finalists; a specific number has not been identified at this time. In addition, feedback may include recommendations for faculty groups to revise and combine their efforts with other groups on campus who are addressing similar topics. Finalists will be asked to submit an expanded version of their white papers that will be posted, and there will be an all-day university-wide retreat on these papers. The Research Roadmap Committee will make final recommendations to the AMP steering committee at the end of the spring semester. The potential outcomes for this activity will be targeted resource allocations, e.g., new faculty positions and operational support to realize the identified research goals. As an FYI, I understand that Yvonna Lincoln and Deb Simmons from our college have been selected to serve on the Research Roadmap Committee. | ||
