University Studies Degree

Dance Concentration

Description:

The dance concentration is designed to allow students with an interest in incorporating dance in their career. Although there is an approved dance minor at the university, there is currently no existing major in dance. Students in this major will be exposed to a greater number of studio hours than those in the dance minor.

We believe this area of concentration will allow students who have a passion for dance to create a degree plan specific to their goals where none currently exists. Many of our students are studying dance in hopes of either opening a dance studio or becoming certified through alternative certification to teach dance in a K-12 setting. We see many opportunities for a student in the dance concentration to combine this with a business minor (for those who want to open a studio) or other teaching area minors (that will aid them in becoming certified to teach in another area).

We see this degree as a truly interdisciplinary degree because most students in this area of concentration will be selecting minors outside the College of Education and Human Development in order to meet goals of a career in dance (i.e., business, speech communications, theatre, etc).
